Tom Frost

On the 3rd day of Christmas my true love gave to me Tooommm Frost!

Meet Tom Frost. There are a few reasons why this little boy came about:

1. There's a Jack Frost, why not Tom Frost too?

2. The man nearest and dearest to my heart is named Tom.

3. Tom Frost happens to be one of my modern day climbing heroes. Tom is a rock climber from California and one of the first pioneers of the sport. His achievements included ascents of the magnificent monoliths in Yosemite, including the famous Salathe Wall on El Capitan, and ascents in the Himalayas alongside an impressive league of brilliant climbers such as Warren Harding, Royal Robbins, Yvon Chouinard, and Edmund Hillary. Not only is Tom a stellar climber and photographer, he is also an advocate of environmental ethics in climbing and worked hard to help preserve, respect and protect the natural environment that gave him so much enjoyment in life. Tom is now in his 70s. He is still climbing. And he is still one of my heroes.

Tom Frost is a very personal creation. I suppose that there has been a rather strong inner voice tugging at me...a voice that says the mountain is calling and I yearn (at times too desperately) to be back up there. The mountain is a place like no other on earth, for me. It is where I feel most in my element and always happiest. I am an amateur climber, but an avid one. Lately, I've been feeling an immense urge to get back on the rocks and the mountains. But, everything has its time and place and now appears not to be the time or place for me. So, I created Tom.

Tom is one of "the most kind, gentle and generous little boys you will meet, with never an ill word to say of anyone. He is also a boy filled with courage and leadership and possesses the true spirit of climbing." Winter is here in his part of the world and he is set and ready to get out for adventurous days in the cold, stark air.

Tom is a Wee-Bee Mini Elfcup doll. He stands less than 6" (15 cm) tall. He is made with all natural materials. His doll skin is made with premium quality cotton jersey imported from Europe. He is firmly stuffed with bio-wool made in Oregon.  His seams are sewn twice for reinforcement.  His hair is made of a mohair-silk blended yarn and was hand sewn strand by strand directly onto his head to achieve a buzz-cut look.  He has an embroidered and simple facial expression but also an easy going and pleasant demeanor.  His cheeks, nose and various body parts are blushed with red beeswax.  He is a sitting doll with sewn joints that are made flexible for easy movement and changing of clothes.  He has a little belly button and even a bum.

Tom comes wearing a blue striped hand-knit beanie made of Isager 100% alpaca yarn. He wears a simple long sleeve cotton shirt and grey cotton-polyester pants. His mountain boots are hand knit using a 100% wool yarn. His rope is hand knit with Isager 100% alpaca yarn and measures about 24" (61 cm) long. His ice axe is needle felted with 100% wool.

Tom is recommended for ages 4+. If you are interested in bringing Tom home to surprise a little girl or little boy who is aspiring to be a climber and would like a companion to follow in their pocket as they scurry up the rock wall, Tom is now available in the Etsy shop.

They Are Mystical Beings...

...cloaked in regal attire, wrapped in an aura of wisdom that spans beyond the existence of human beings, and dispatched by a legion of elves whose occupation is love and kindness.

Through snow and wind they drift, guided by the light of their lantern. They come carrying messages locked up in bottles. They are known to some as...The Kindness Elves.

In the quiet of the night, they come silently and gently...and they stay. Their presence protects and guides people of all ages on the journey home...to where the heart is. They are fearless, unwavering and true to their duty. They conduct their responsibilities with such strength and conviction that one could easily mistaken them as grown men and women. In truth, they are each a child elf. In this way, they much resemble human beings...peel back the layers of life that have been added on through the years and you shall see that at the core is just a child....peel back the layers of royal garments and you shall see that these are merely young elflings.

And as such, mother nature is true to her creations, whereby knowledge, wisdom, LOVE and KINDNESS stem from the core...also known as children. In elves or in humans, children are our guide to true love and kindness. Let us never forget this when we look at our little ones. But, mostly, let us never forget this when we look at ourselves.

The idea of the Kindness Elf came from a friend who wanted to substitute the idea of the Elf on the Shelf with one that focuses on kindness. I love the idea and I had so much fun making these little ones that I think more will be created for the shop as well as our home. Thank you, L and N for giving me the chance to create these little beings for you, for us and for others out there who may want the presence of a Kindness Elf in their lives.

In past creations, each Scarlet Elfcup doll was given a name. I think this time around, it seems more appropriate for me to leave the naming of these special elves to the family which they are going home to. Naming these two elves by me, feels akin to someone other than the parents naming their children. As such, they will be referred to as "He" and "She" Kindness Elves.

Our She-Kindness Elf is a Wee-Bee Mini Elfcup doll. She stands less than 6" (15 cm) tall. She is made with all natural materials. Her doll skin is made with premium quality cotton jersey imported from Europe. She is firmly stuffed with bio-wool made in Oregon.  Her seams are sewn twice for reinforcement.  Her hair is made of natural mohair yarn tied into two braided pigtails.  She has an embroidered and simple facial expression.  Her cheeks, nose and various body parts are blushed with red beeswax.  She is a sitting doll with sewn joints that are made flexible for easy movement and changing of clothes.  She has a sweet belly button, bummie and little elf ears.

She comes wearing a neutral colored cotton dress with lace trim for the straps. The dress opens fully on the back side with nickel-plated brass sewn-on snaps. Her elf hat is hand knit with Rowan kidsilk haze yarn, a mohair-silk blended yarn. It has openings that lay comfortably around her little elf ears. She comes with a pair of hand knit elf boots made from 100% fine alpaca yarn by Isager.

Our He-Kindness Elf is also cut from the Wee-Bee Mini Elfcup doll pattern. He stands less than 6" (15 cm) tall. He is made with all natural materials. His doll skin is made with premium quality cotton jersey imported from Europe. He is firmly stuffed with bio-wool made in Oregon.  His seams are sewn twice for reinforcement.  His hair is made of red mohair yarn.  He has an embroidered and simple facial expression.  His cheeks, nose and various body parts are blushed with red beeswax.  He is a sitting doll with sewn joints that are made flexible for easy movement and changing of clothes.  He has a sweet belly button, bummie and little elf ears.

He comes wearing a rich moss colored cloak made of cotton linen and lined with a beautiful green patterned cotton fabric. The straps are hand knit using a Rowan kidsilk haze yarn. The shirt he wears is made of cotton knit. His pants are made from Maiwa hand dyed cotton linen. His elf hat is hand knit with Rowan kidsilk haze yarn, a mohair-silk blended yarn. It has openings for his itty-bitty elf ears. His sweet elf boots are hand knit using Isager 100% fine alpaca yarn.

Both of these children come bearing messages in a tiny glass bottle with removeable cork. Let your imagination soar in how you will use these magical glass bottles to send messages of kindness and love to your little one.

Brother and sister...inseparable are these two.

The Kindness Elves are recommended as toys only for children 3+ due to the delicate nature of their design and the small parts on them that pose as choking hazards for children who still enjoy exploring with their mouths.
