On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.
And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.

-John Donohue

Legend has it that a butterfly floats free across time and space and dimensions unknown to us. The butterfly's metamorphosis from pupa represents immortality as it dies in one stage of life to be resurrected as something eternally beautiful and blissfully free. Irish mythology, along with a number of cultures, believe that the butterfly is the bearer of a soul crossing time, space and lifetimes.

She is a Pixie from an other world, guardian to the one thing that creates LIFE...the HEART. Behold, in her small dainty hands, a box. Inside, an eternal flame blazes with life setting free a boundless number of souls.

She is the gate keeper of the heart that beats from within and lights the flame that frees the soul. Her name is SERENDIPITY.

Beannacht-15.jpg

Serendipity is a Pixie of Irish descent. Her eyes are of the most beautiful deep green, her hair the most beautiful red of reds. She stands less than 6" (15 cm) tall. She is made with all natural materials. Her doll skin is made with premium quality cotton jersey imported from Europe. She is firmly stuffed with bio-wool made in Oregon.  Her seams are sewn twice for reinforcement.  Her hair is made of natural mohair yarn tied into two pigtails.  She has an embroidered and simple facial expression.  Her cheeks, nose and various body parts are blushed with red beeswax.  She is a sitting doll with sewn joints that are made flexible for easy movement and changing of clothes.  She has a sweet belly button and a bum.

Serendipity comes wearing a soft pink cotton dress with lace trim for the straps. Her dress has a soft brown tulle underneath for added support. The dress is sewn closed at the back. Her Pixie hat is hand knit with Rowan kidsilk haze yarn, a mohair-silk blended yarn. She comes with a pair of hand knit pixie boots also made from Rowan kidsilk haze yarn.

Serendipity's eternal box and flock of butterflies is made from paper. The idea of the butterfly flock was inspired by the work of one of my favorite paper sculptors, Su Blackwell. The heart that lies within is needle felted with 100% wool roving.

To K: Thank you for bringing friendship, beauty and Serendipity into my life. I am eternally grateful that our butterflies crossed paths. May Serendipity always keep your heart safe and your soul beautiful and free.
